The 23rd Annual AIDS Walk / Run will take place Saturday, October 3, 2009 beginning and ending at Freedom Plaza. The timed run begins at 9:00 AM after a stage program including music, inspiring speeches, and an energetic warm-up/stretching session.
The 5K timed run has increased in popularity since its inception in 2007 and more than a thousand runners are expected to take part in this year's event. The certified 5K course is picturesque and historic and takes participants from Freedom Plaza to the Capitol and back. A water station at the mid-point is sponsored by Giant Food. A guaranteed highlight will be the cheers of thousands of walkers on the return trip (the walk portion steps off at 9:30). Stick around after your run for a music-filled celebration.
The 5K timed run is made possible through the continued support and participation of Capital Running Company and Georgetown Running Company. Capital Running Company will again be providing their expert race management and ChronoTrack D-tag timing. Georgetown Running Company will graciously be providing the bibs for each runner as well as offering running clinics at their two area stores. In addition, they are offering a 25% discount to participants on any one purchase on special shopping nights (7/16, 8/20, and 9/17 from 6 - 8:00 PM).
Presenting sponsors of AIDS Walk / Run Washington include NBC4 and Radio One.
A $35 registration fee includes a commemorative event T-shirt, fundraising support, convenient pre-event packet pickup, ChronoTrack D-tag timing, a runner bag-check that morning, and prizes for the top-performing runners.
Proceeds from the event benefit the HIV/AIDS programs of Whitman-Walker Clinic.
