The inaugural Acumen Solutions Race for a Cause 8K will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at 8:00 AM in North Arlington. The unique event raises awareness and funds to benefit 13 non-profits and allows participants to choose the charity they support. "You Choose. You Race. They Win." With a flat, fast course, generous prize purse, great age-group awards, technical race shirts from Nike, and post-race promotions for all runners at area restaurants, the new race promises to become a fall favorite.

The charity fundraising aspect of the event has already resulted in a large number of registrants who will be running a race for the first time. The fast, out-and-back course should yield fast times as well--the Race for a Cause 8K has added a $2000 prize purse divided among the top three male and female finishers and the top masters man and woman. The event will also offer generous age group awards. "We are excited about the event's broad appeal--both as a means to introduce new runners to the excitement of road races and as a great racing opportunity for the more experienced runners," said Race Director, Scott Raczko.

Thanks to the support of some great area restaurants, all participants will receive a wristband entitling them to post-race discounts and promotions throughout the day at Eventide, Bailey's Pub & Grill, and the Liberty Tavern. "We are excited that these businesses will add to the race experience and offer runners and walkers a chance to socialize and celebrate post-race," said Margie Johnson of Acumen Solutions.

This year's race will spotlight 13 local non-profit organizations. Participants are encouraged to become more aware of each of these worthwhile organizations and their contributions to the community. This race is unique because each racer gets to select the cause he/she wishes to support! Your participation helps to secure valuable funds for the organization in return.

The event is presented by Acumen Solutions, in partnership with Potomac River Running. Runners and walkers can learn more and register online at www.theraceforacause.com. Online registration is available through Thursday, October 29. Participants can also register in-person and/or pick up their race materials at the Potomac River Running store in Arlington on Friday, October 30 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Saturday, October 31 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
