Participants Encouraged to Join the GOTR SoleMates Team and Become Role Models for Young Girls

ZOOMA Women's Race Series, a national series of women's running events, and Girls on the Run of the Greater Chesapeake, an empowerment and fitness program for girls in grades 3-8, has announced that Girls on the Run will be the exclusive Official Charity Partner of ZOOMA Annapolis in 2010.

Girls on the Run of the Greater Chesapeake is a program for girls in grades 3-8 that uses the power of running to give girls the tools for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. The 10-week curriculum combines self-esteem enhancing life-lessons, discussions, and running games in an encouraging, girl-positive environment where girls can feel free to express themselves and build their confidence.

The mission of Girls on the Run to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living resonates with ZOOMA Annapolis participants. ZOOMA runners and walkers are women who have incorporated running and physical fitness into their lives as a way to maintain balanced and healthy lifestyles. The opportunity to serve as a role model and influence young girls toward that same path is extremely relevant to ZOOMA participants.

"ZOOMA Annapolis participants will jump at the chance to encourage young women in their communities to begin healthy life habits at an early age," said Brae Blackley, Executive Director of ZOOMA Women's Race Series. "We are excited about the opportunity to support this extremely worthwhile program in Anne Arundel and Calvert counties."

ZOOMA Annapolis will partner with Girls on the Run to recruit participants for its SoleMates program, which provides a great opportunity for ZOOMA participants to serve as a role model of healthy living for young girls in the Greater Chesapeake community. By joining Girls on the Run SoleMates, ZOOMA participants can fundraise for Girls on the Run and play a vital role in ensuring the future success of Girls on the Run programs that impact on the lives of thousands of young women every year.

SoleMates will be supported during every stage of training and fundraising with exclusive premiums, easy on-line fundraising platforms and online support, progressive training plans, organized group runs led by certified coaches, and race weekend VIP treatment. In addition, Girls on the Run of the Greater Chesapeake will host monthly educational sessions and social events exclusively for SoleMates runners to help participants reach the finish line and have fun along the way.

Registration for Girls on the Run® SoleMates is $26.00 and members agree to raise a minimum of $262.00 throughout their training.
