22nd Annual St. Patrick’s Day 8K

Join us in Washington, DC as we officially open the spring racing season with the St. Patrick's Day 8K.

The 22nd edition of this classic event will be held on Sunday, March 14, 2010 at 9:00 am. The race starts and finishes on Pennsylvania Avenue between 12th and 13th Streets, NW.

Register online now. The entry fee is $30, and increases to $35 for on-site registration race weekend.

For runners' convenience, on-site registration and packet pick-up will be held at two locations prior to race day. On Friday, March 12, on-site registration and packet pick-up will be held at the Old Post Office Pavilion, located on Pennsylvania Avenue at 12th Street (upper balcony), from 11 am to 3 pm. On Saturday, March 13, we will be located at Road Runner Sports in Falls Church, Falls Plaza Shopping Center, 1120 West Broad Street, Falls Church, VA, from 11 am to 4 pm. Come by and shop for your favorite running shoes and gear!

On race day, registration and packet pick-up will be held in a tent on Pennsylvania Avenue next to Freedom Plaza, beginning at 7:00 am.

The race features a flat course, fast competition, bagpipers on the course, runners in costume, and a good time for all!

The Leprechauns Leap, a short fun run just for wee people, will take place immediately following the start of the 8K. No registration necessary! Just line up and run. All kids will get a medal at the finish line.

After the race, the festivities take place at Freedom Plaza (Pennsylvania Avenue between 13th and 14th Streets, NW), and include an exhibition of Irish dancing by the O'Neill-James School of Irish Dancing, and the awards ceremony.

The race features Capital Running Company's signature awards structure: ten deep overall and three deep in five-year age groups from 19 & under to 80 & above. In addition to prizes for the fastest runners, many random prizes will be awarded, including running shoes, gift certificates to local running stores such as Fleet Feet of Adams Morgan, Georgetown Running Company, restaurants, and Irish pubs. The grand random prize is a seven-day resort vacation for two! The prize drawing will be held at the end of the awards ceremony; you must be present to win.

If you are already a fan of this race, please join our group on Facebook. Keep abreast of the latest news and information, see photos from past races, post your own photos, or write on wall and give us feedback or post questions.

The course will be the same 8K course that has been used since the race became an 8K in 2006. Capital Running Company will continue to work with the DC government to improve the course for future years.

If you prefer to register by mail or fax, print the entry form on the Registration page and send it to Capital Running Company. For full information about the event, see the race Web site.
