It was authentic Ireland at the sold out inaugural Four Courts Four Miler on Saturday March 13 in Arlington. There was rain (lots of it), runners in green, shamrock race shirts, a leprechaun, and of course... Guinness!

Runners started at Ireland's Four Courts pub and restaurant in the Courthouse neighborhood of Arlington. Runners enjoyed the first two downhill miles along Wilson Boulevard to Route 110 straight. However, for many, the sprint turned into a slow jog as they worked their way back up the steep Wilson Boulevard hill.
The hill was no sweat for Robbie Wade, the Pacers leprechaun. Dressed in all green, Wade, originally from Ireland, started more than 8 minutes behind the rest of the runners. His goal was to beat as many participants as possible in what was dubbed, "The Leprechaun Leap." If a runner crossed the finish line before Wade they were awarded a pint glass, compliments of Guinness. If the Leprechaun beat a runner, the event donated $1 to the Arlington Police Beneficiary Association. "Runners were really into it," Wade remarked after the race, "I passed one guy towards the end. He let out a defeated sigh, and then started to walk because he was so distraught the Leprechaun had passed him!" That runner was not alone. Wade officially leaped 1,033 of the participants, meaning Pacers Events donated $1,033 to the benevolent fund for Arlington County.
Caldwell Clarke, like many runners, ran a slower second half then first. Clarke's total time was a solid 30:09:  good for 130th place. His first 2 miles were 13:39; his second half almost 3 minutes slower in 16:30. "The hill was a great equalizer. Gravity was my friend on the first two miles and my enemy on the second two miles. Considering the uphill portion of the race was the second half of the race, I was very happy with my time. It was awesome to re-fuel my tank at Ireland's Four Courts with Guinness with my new Pacers / Four Courts pint glass. Fortunately, I was not leapt by the leprechaun and I actually found myself looking over my shoulder to see if he was gaining on me."
The hill could not zap the energy out of party. After the results were posted, the more than 1,200 participants celebrated at Ireland's Four Courts restaurant. The festivities concluded with a random drawing for a free trip to the Dublin Marathon, courtesy of Isle Inn Tours.
Pacers Racing Team members Will Viviani of Arlington and Lindsay Ritchings of College Park, MD (below) won the overall men's and women's race in 20:21 and 23:48, respectively.
