Gearing Up for the 7th Annual Navy 5-Miler

It is time to consider adding the Navy 5-Miler to your running schedule as the race is reaching its limits. The critical elements to the success include parking available, certified course, dedicated staff, volunteers, sponsors, and lastly runners who seize the opportunity.

On Sunday, September 26, 2010 at 8:00 a.m. the 7th Annual Navy 5-Miler will be conducted with the start and finish located at the North Pentagon parking lot along Boundary Channel Drive. There will be ample parking for those who arrive early before the roads are closed.

$40 September 1 - September 17

$45 after September 17

There will be no race day registration. Do not delay and miss this running opportunity.

Team creation fee is $20 (per team) online at the race Web site. There are seven categories:

Captain's Challenge - Men's - All active duty males from the same branch of service.

Captain's Challenge - Women's - All active duty females from the same branch of service.

Masters Challenge - All males 40 plus years of age, any mix of military/civilian.

Masters Challenge - All female 40 plus years of age, any mix of military/civilian

Military - All active duty, any branch of service, any mix of age or gender.

Corporate - All employees from same corporation, any mix of age or gender.

Open - At least 1 female, any mix of age and military and/or civilians.

All team members must register as individuals. Teams must have a minimum of 4 runners with a maximum of 8. The top 4 times will be combined to determine team time and placement. Teams cannot compete in more than one category. Awards will be presented to the top three teams in each category.

Individual awards will be presented to the following top three: Overall male and female, masters, and wheelchairs (push rim chairs). There will be no duplication of awards.

Age group awards will be presented to the top three finishers in the following age groups:

14 and younger, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, and 75 & older. All finishers will receive a race coin.

 

Packet Pick-up will be available on Saturday, September 25, 2010, 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Road Runner Sports, 1120 West Broad Street, Falls Church, VA. Race day pick-up will be open at the race site until 7:30 a.m.

 

New for 2010 there will be a pre-race social to be held at the Hampton Inn (2520 Waterfront Street, Oxon Hill, 20745), National Harbor, Hampton Inn from 6:30 until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2010. The cost is $20 with giveaways throughout the evening and the entertainment will be the band The Great Train Robbery with food provided by Mamma Lucia of College Park, MD, and beverages provided by Pepsi.

The Official Photographer will be Marathon-Photos.com.
