Run For the Dream Registration for 2012 Opens Friday

Runners interested in participating in the 2nd Annual Run for the Dream Half Marathon and 8K Run/Walk may register online at www.RunforAchievableDream.com beginning this Friday, July 15. The half marathon will take place in Williamsburg on Sunday, May 20, 2012. Early general registration for the half marathon is $75 until October 1. Active duty members of the military may register for $45. Wounded Warriors may register for free. The first 3,000 registrants for the half marathon will receive a free pass to Busch Gardens and the first 6,000 registrants in either race will receive a free pass to Colonial Williamsburg, both to be used race weekend.
The Fit to Run, Fit to Dream 8K Run/Walk will take place the same weekend on Saturday, May 19, 2012. Early general registration for the 8K is $40 until October 1. The registration fee for active duty members of the military is $25. Armed Forces Day is May 19 and the 8K will honor Wounded Warriors and our nation’s military personnel and veterans.
Both races start on the campus of The College of William & Mary, wind through Colonial Williamsburg’s Historic Area and finish at William & Mary’s Zable Stadium. The half marathon course also takes runners on the Colonial Parkway to the James River before returning to the City of Williamsburg and the campus. A Race Expo will be held Friday, May 18 and Saturday, May 19, at the Colonial Williamsburg Woodlands Conference Center, which serves as the Race Headquarters.
The inaugural 2011 Run for the Dream was a resounding success and attracted runners from across the nation. The combination of races made the weekend event a popular choice for families. A Kids Fun Run will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2012 following the 8K. Registration is $15 per child and includes a t-shirt and finisher medal. Colonial Williamsburg will serve as the official race hotels with special weekend rates at the Governor’s Inn and the Woodlands Hotel and Suites.
Proceeds from the Run for the Dream benefit An Achievable Dream, a nationally recognized
K-12 school dedicated to the belief that all children can learn and succeed regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds and that education can break the cycle of poverty. The race also benefits military Wounded Warriors programs, dedicated to assisting and advocating for the severely wounded, ill, and injured members of the armed forces and for their families.
