J&A Racing is excited to announce that the 2012 Shamrock Anthem Half Marathon has reached its general registration capacity and has sold out. The immensely popular event is the largest of the five races which comprise the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon Weekend, a Virginia Beach, Virginia, St. Patrick’s Day tradition. The Anthem Half Marathon has sold out every year since its introduction in 2006, and its reputation as a must-run event was recently upheld when Competitor magazine named it the Best Half Marathon of the Mid-Atlantic Region.
“We are extremely pleased that this event is so well received,” said co-race director and J&A Racing co-owner, Jerry Frostick. “Our goal has always been to put on a quality event large enough to be very exciting, yet small enough to not feel overwhelming to participants. The fact that we have once again sold out this race months in advance is a pretty good indication that we’re doing things right!”
The Yuengling Shamrock Marathon Weekend will be celebrating its 40th year in 2012 and will take place March 16-18. The weekend will include the Marathon, the Anthem Half Marathon, the TowneBank 8K, the Operation Smile Final Mile, and the Children’s Marathon. The event will also include a two-day Sports and Fitness Expo, one of the largest on the east coast, which will take place in the Virginia Beach Convention Center.
Slots for the Athem Half Marathon are still available through one of Shamrock’s official charities. In addition, 300 special race entries will go on sale on January 9th with 100% of the entry fees benefitting those charities. Information on charity registration and complete event weekend details can be found at the race web site at www.shamrockmarathon.com.
