Freihofer's Run for Women 5K on June 2 in Albany, NY: Registration Has Opened

Registration for the 34th Annual Freihofer’s Run for Women 5K on Saturday, June 2 in Albany, NY has opened. The race is one of the world’s most prestigious all-female road races.

Registration is available online at freihofersrun.com, or call (518) 273-5552. Early-bird pricing is available for those signing up online, allowing for a discount of up to 30 percent off the regular entry fee through February. Additional discounts will continue to be available online after February 29.

“Participation for last year’s event jumped 23 percent,” said Event Director George Regan, noting that nearly 5,000 runners registered in 2011. “We know that the existing course can safely accommodate 5,400 runners, so if these increasing trends continue, we will have to close race registrations early for the first time ever. For this reason, we encourage participants to register as early as possible.”

Registrants will once again be entered to win high-end products such as iPods and an iPad, in addition to packages from local fitness centers and spas. The earlier participants register, the more items they have the opportunity to win.

Organizers are also happy to announce the return of the Freihofer’s Training Challenge, which follows the popular Couch to 5k Running Plan. Beginning March 19, runners signed up for the Run for Women have the opportunity to work with dedicated coaches and team leaders for 10 weeks leading into the event. Almost 400 women signed up for the inaugural program in 2011.

In addition to having an opportunity to compete against more than 5,000 runners, ranging from Olympians to recreational athletes, all Run for Women entrants will receive a high-performance, female-cut technical t-shirt. Other perks include free massages, chiropractic adjustments and discounted running equipment at the CapitalCare/CDPHP Health & Fitness Expo; clinics featuring elite athletes; live music both around the course and on-stage following the race; and refreshments courtesy of Price Chopper supermarkets.
