The largest field to ever participate in the American Odyssey Relay (AOR) will have a big decision to make this April. Who will run leg 6? The 6.7 mile segment with an 1100 foot climb over the final four miles is always the most discussed leg of the AOR and is considered a true measure of a runner’s aptitude for hills or willingness to be punished. This year, everyone who runs leg six will receive a Pilsner glass embossed with the AOR logo and the words “I ran leg six!”
“In keeping with our reputation of being a fun and easygoing relay, we thought we’d reward those crazy enough to take on the challenge of leg 6,” said race director Bob Fleshner.
In addition, Fleshner confirmed that there would again be a finish line party sponsored by The Wharf, T-shirts from Puma, and a large group of experienced and energetic volunteers. “We have the best volunteers in the racing community, bar none,” said Kelly Cameron, AOR volunteer coordinator. “They help make AOR’s transitions stress free and fun.”
The American Odyssey Relay will again donate a portion of the proceeds to Hope Connections for Cancer Support, Hope for the Warriors, and Team Red, White, and Blue.
The American Odyssey Relay is an approximately 200-mile course that kicks off in Gettysburg, PA on April 27, weaving through Maryland, and finishing on the Southwest Waterfront in Washington, DC on April 28.
