Run for Shelter 10K & Fun Run unites national nonprofit and Northern Virginia’s largest homeless shelter.

On April 28, 2012, national nonprofit Back on My Feet (BoMF) will join Pacers Events and Carpenter’s Shelter – Northern Virginia’s largest homeless shelter – in raising funds to end homelessness.  The Run for Shelter 10K & Fun Run will be an out-and-back event on Eisenhower Avenue in Alexandria, with all proceeds to benefit the shelter.

The local DC chapter of BoMF is also working toward a partnership with Carpenter’s Shelter for 2012.

“We’re thrilled to be a part of Run for Shelter and the potential opportunity to bring Back on My Feet to Alexandria,” said Autumn Campbell, Executive Director for Back on My Feet DC-Baltimore.

Both Carpenter’s Shelter and Back on My Feet have been noted for their efforts to combat homelessness through holistic approaches. Carpenter’s provides a range of services and programs, including shelter for homeless adults and families, transitional services, education grants, and life skills training.  BoMF was founded in 2007 to promote self-sufficiency, confidence, and strength within the homeless population by engaging them in running programs.

Twenty five BoMF resident members will run in the April race.

"Carpenter's Shelter is excited to work with Back On My Feet for the Run for Shelter 10K. It’s a partnership based on a shared mission, and I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish together," says Lissette S. Bishins, Executive Director for Carpenter’s Shelter.

Back on My Feet DC is also a charity beneficiary of the St. Patrick’s Day 8K.
