The Blue Cross Broad Street Run, America’s largest 10 mile running event in Philadelphia PA has closed registration with more than 33,000 runners entered in the event.
According to race director Jim Marino, “Registration for the Blue Cross Broad Street Run has exceeded our wildest expectations, with over 30,000 runners registering in a record five hours on Wednesday, February 15, 2012.” We apologize for the many runners who were unable to register. To allow more people to participate, the race will hold a lottery for an additional 2,500 spots.”
Marino, after consulting with City officials, made the decision to give more runners the lottery opportunity. Marino added, “I am confident that we can safely conduct the run. With the continued support of over 90 volunteer groups and the great staff of the Parks and Recreation department, we are committed to put on a first class event as we have in the past.”
Marino added, “We deeply appreciate the tremendous support of the entire running community for making this event the success that it is.”
Anyone still wishing to participate may go to www.broadstreetrun.com starting on Thursday, February 16 to enter into the lottery. The lottery will be open until Friday, February 24 at 5:00 p.m. EST. Lottery runners will be notified the following weekend.
