10th Annual
Manassas City Police Association
Memorial 5K Run
Manassas, VA
Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 8:00 AM
The Manassas City Police Association is hosting the tenth annual 5K race in honor of Sgt John D. Conner III who was killed in the line of duty on July 24, 1988. The event features a certified course, ChronoTrack timing, good competition, and fun for the entire community.
New and Beginning Runners Information
The ChronoTrack timing system will be used to score the 5K race. The system uses a disposable D-tag which must be secured to runners' shoe laces and records the exact time a runner crosses the starting line as well as the finish line, resulting in a net, or "Chip" time for each runner. Overall awards will be based on the "clock time" and age group awards will be based on "Chip time."
You must wear your ChronoTrack disposable D-tag on your shoe and cross the mats at the start and finish to be scored. If you are unfamiliar with running in a ChronoTrack timed race, please read the article Running in a ChronoTrack Race.

Charity Beneficiary
The race is in honor of Sgt John D Conner III who was killed in the line of duty on July 24, 1988. He was a husband and a father of four. Through this tragic event something evolved. Virginia legislation was passed for the siblings of slain law enforcement officers to attend a Virginia college at no cost to the family. Funds raised during this event benefit the children of our department personnel in the form of scholarship awards. The MCPA has awarded more than $50,000 in scholarships so far.
Scholarship ProgramThe Manassas City Police Association Scholarship Program has since its inception awarded $50,000 in annual scholarships. The beneficiaries of these scholarships attend colleges and universities throughout the state and the country to include: William and Mary, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Christopher Newport, and Bridgewater. The only financial support that the Association receives for this program is from individual and corporate donors. We hope that you will join us in supporting the Scholarship Program through a tax-deductible donation. Donations can be made to the Manassas City Police Charitable Foundation and mailed to the Manassas City Police Department, 9518 Fairview Avenue, Manassas, VA 20110. Our goal is to raise at least $20,000 this year.
