Capital Running Company is pleased to announce its acquisition of a new, state-of-the-art timing system for road races, cross-country and multi-sport events. The innovative ChronoTrack timing system uses a disposable "D-tag" that is distributed on the runners' bib, and then tied into the shoelaces. Capital Running Company plans to introduce the system to Washington, DC area runners at the Harris Teeter YMCA Loudoun County Leesburg 10K & 20K race on August 10.

"We are really excited about the new timing system," said Rick Freedman, president of Capital Running Company. "It offers many advantages over our current system. Runners will love the convenience of not having to untie their shoes after the race, and race directors will stop paying for lost chips. Runners will notice in the coming months that ChronoTrack is the timing system of the future."

Capital Running Company has been at the forefront of timing innovations throughout its existence. "Before transponder timing, we used to be the only company in the area to use an 'open chutes' system at the finish line. Then, we introduced the ChampionChip timing system to DC runners at the 1998 St. Patrick's Day 10K, and have been timing races exclusively with the chip for almost ten years," Freedman said.

The ChronoTrack timing system is extremely flexible and accommodates events of all sizes. Start/finish lines are configurable from a 42-inch length all the way up to a continuous 56-foot configuration. The modular design allows race timers to set up lines in a variety of ways to suit their application. The ChronoTrack system is highly durable, easily deployable, and easy to transport. It comes with a variety of communication options and multiple layers of data redundancy.

ChronoTrack is the first race timing system made in the USA and designed by a professional race timer based on his more than 25 years of experience. The system eliminates many of the potential hazards of older systems, and is easy to deploy and operate. One of the many goals of the ChronoTrack system is to simplify the timing process for athletes. A disposable tag eliminates the need for several organizational choke points, reduces the need for race volunteers, and allows the athletes to spend more time focusing on their competition and less time waiting in lines. Shorter lines before the race to pick up bibs and chips and no need to return the tag afterward are just some of the benefits to the ChronoTrack system. The D-tag is easy to attach to shoes and is far lighter and less intrusive than other timing tags and chips. Once the D-tag is attached to the shoe, the athlete will quickly forget that it is even there!

"We will be phasing in the new system throughout the fall," Freedman added. He noted that runners will enjoy the simplicity, speed, accuracy, and precision that caused Capital Running Company to choose ChronoTrack.
