The count down is on--the Race For Education 5K Run/Walk is
almost here. The goal of the race is to raise funds for the
Library Inside the Classroom Initiative in Prince George's
County Public Schools. This program will benefit all public
schools and will cost approximately $1,350,000. Registered participants can pick up race packets at the site of
the race:

Race Kick-Off at 9 a.m.
The course is a moderately flat route that winds through scenic
Watkins Regional Park. Awards will be given to the top three
male and female finishers in the 5K run, and medal awards will
be given in the following age groups: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-
24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-
69, 70-74, 75 and above. Medals for all 1K participants and a
variety of random prizes will be given to the winners.
Step groups and cheerleaders from the schools will perform. All
runners and walkers will be prepared for the race with warm-up
exercises.
Parking will be available for race participants at Watkins Park
with additional parking at Perrywood Elementary School, located
at 501 Watkins Park Drive. A shuttle bus leaving to and from
Perrywood Elementary School will be provided.

DIRECTIONS:
From the Capital Beltway (I-495), take Exit 15A (Central Avenue)
east. Continue for approximately three miles. Turn right onto
Watkins Park Drive (Route 193) and follow the park signs to the
Group Picnic Area.
From Route 301, turn onto Central Avenue (Route 214) west.
Continue for approximately three miles (past Six Flags America).
Turn left onto Watkins Park Drive and continue to the park
entrance on the right.
