See the Race Day Report of the 2005 race, with photos and award winners.
The Germantown 5-Miler is a family-friendly fitness activity
that will be held in Germantown, Maryland on Saturday, May 20,
2006. The race, benefiting Germantown Boys & Girls Club, is
presented by Seneca Creek Community Church in cooperation with
Capital Running Company. The event, to be held at Seneca Meadows
Corporate Center of Germantown, will include a 5-mile,
ChampionChip timed race, a 2-mile family fun run, and a 1K Kids
run. The fun run allows strollers and dogs. These events will
culminate with awards, prize drawings, and fresh baked
refreshments. The mission of the Germantown Boys & Girls Club is to help boys
and girls of all backgrounds, with an emphasis on at-risk youth,
build confidence, develop character, and acquire the skills
needed to become productive, civic-minded responsible adults.
Today, children come from families in which both parents work;
in fact, this situation seems to be the "traditional" family
these days. Elementary students today lack the community support
required to deal with academics, extracurricular activities, and
social challenges. For this reason, the Germantown Boys & Girls
Club provides youth with a positive and safe place to go and a
way to grow in a safe and caring environment. From the church's early beginnings in 1989, Seneca Creek
Community Church (Seneca Creek) has always valued community
involvement in Germantown. One of Seneca Creek's core values is
to assist and influence the educational, political, and business
institutions of its community while helping to care for the
family. Seneca Creek admires the efforts of the Germantown Boys
& Girls Club and is happy that the race committee has chosen
this worthy local charity as its 2006 beneficiary.
