For the Washington Running Report

The newly formed Richmond program wins the team competition by more than five minutes.

RVA Runners, a competitive running program in the Richmond area, made an impressive debut the first weekend in April by winning the team competition at the Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10K. The team of Kate Woodliff, Paul Caminiti, Jeff Fitzgerald, Gerritt Labuschagne, and John Sharp won the team division by more than five minutes with a time of 2:27:03.

Individually, RVA Runners had five men in the top 50 overall and 4 women in the Top 50 women at the Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10K. John Sharp led the Men's RVA team, finishing 18th overall in a time of 34:13. Casey Smith posted an impressive 8th place finish in the women's division with a time of 35:35. RVA Runners' second team finished fifth out of 96 teams.

In Washington DC, RVA Runners performed equally as strong. The open women's team (Michelle Mudge-Riley, Allyson Schnidel, and Amanda Luksetich) finished 3rd while the Mixed Masters team (Greg Roth, Soozie Lewis, and Sarah Dorman) finished in 2nd place.

RVA Runners was formed because the founders, Lisa Borja, Sean Cusack, and Greg Roth recognized the need for a running team that would bring the area talent together and elevate the level of competitive running in the Richmond area. Since its inception at the end of 2006, RVA Runners has reached sponsorship agreements with SnagaJob.com and Smooth Running Graphics.

"The partnership with RVA Runners and SnagaJob.com made perfect sense because of SnagaJob's corporate culture of promoting a healthy lifestyle," says Sean Cusack, co-founder of RVA Runners. SnagAJob.com is the nation's largest job site for part- time and full-time hourly jobs, with more than 117 million annual job searches for companies hiring non-exempt employees. Their corporate headquarters are located in the Richmond area.

The mission of RVA Runners is to bring together runners in the Richmond community and create a competitive running team with an atmosphere conducive to winning. RVA Runners consists of more than 30 athletes that compete in various events at the local, regional, and national levels.
