Where does the money go?
The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Race Series is the largest
series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world and raises
significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast
cancer. Washington, DC has one of the highest breast cancer
mortality rates in the country and local residents face severe
disparities in accessing breast health and breast cancer
screening and treatment services. Last year, $3.3 million of the funds raised through the Komen
National Race remained in the Washington, DC community to fund
outreach programs and initiatives that address the specific
unmet breast health needs of the area. The remaining net
proceeds support cutting-edge breast cancer research through
the Komen Grants Program, which has invested more than $180
million dollars over the past 25 years, making it the largest
source of funding for breast cancer research behind the U.S.
government. These grants support groundbreaking breast cancer
research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific
programs around the world.

About Susan G. Komen for the Cure
Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she
would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever.
In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and
launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen for
the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast
cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower
people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to
find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the
Cure, we have invested $1 billion to fulfill our promise,
becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the
fight against breast cancer in the world. For more information
