Registrants Closing the Gap on 18,000 Runner Cap
By Amy Lyons, Assistant Race Coordinator
August 15, 2002
Washington, DC

Attracting military and civilian runners from around the world, more than 11,000 runners have registered for the 18th Annual Army Ten-Miler, produced by the U.S. Army Military District of Washington. This nationally acclaimed race, the Army's premiere running event, is set for Oct. 20 at the Pentagon. Mail-in registrations must be postmarked by Aug. 30, and online registration at www.armytenmiler.com will close at 18,000 runners or Sept. 20 at 5 p.m. EST.

Activities abound over the race weekend. The Army Ten-Miler Packet Pick-Up and Race Expo, featuring a variety of vendors, will run Oct. 18th and 19th at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, VA. Two pre-race pasta dinners are scheduled for Oct. 19. The first is at 3 p.m. on the Odyssey Cruise Ship, and then the GEICO Pasta Dinner at 6 p.m., at the Crystal Gateway Marriott. Sgt. Maj. of the Army Jack L. Tilley, the Command Sergeant Major of the Army National Guard, Sgt. Maj. Frank Lever, and the Command Sergeant Major of the U.S. Army Reserve Command, Sgt. Maj. Alex Ray Lackey, will be in attendance.

On race day, children can enjoy the fun festivities of the 94.7 Washington's Classic Rock Kid's Zone and the Junior Ten-Miler kid's run. And, the weekend comes to a close with the 94.7 Washington's Classic Rock Post-Race Party where runners can celebrate their accomplishments.

The Army Ten-Miler is a fun and exciting event for the whole family. Be a part of America's largest ten-mile race as a runner or a volunteer. For more information about the race, to register or to be a volunteer, go to Army Ten Miler or contact the Army Ten-Miler office at 202-685-3361.
