Kentlands 5K Offers Prize Money

The Kentlands/Lakelands 5K on Aug. 31 is offering cash prizes to the top three men and women finishers. The first man and first woman win $300, the second man and second woman receive $200, and the third man and third woman get $100.

Awards will also go to top runners in five-year age categories, and to leading finishers in each of the following teams: Brother- Sister; Sister-Sister; Brother-Brother; Father-Son, Father- Daughter; Mother-Son; Mother-Daughter; Husband-Wife.

Running this year is Bill Rodgers, four-time winner of the Boston and New York Marathons, and former world record holder in the 25K.

The Kentlands/Lakelands 5K Run and Kids Run Runs are on Saturday, Aug. 31. The children's runs start at 8:00 AM followed by the 5K race at 8:30 AM.

After the race there will be a climbing wall, moon bounce, children's games, random prizes, food and drinks.

The race, hosted by the Kentlands Community Foundation in partnership with the City of Gaithersburg, will benefit the Foundation and a City scholarship fund.

Online registration is $23 by Aug. 28; $25 on race day. Register online at Kentlands 5K.

Note: You can run the 5K course on Monday, Aug. 26, at 7:00 PM. The run leaves from the Kentlands Clubhouse. For directions go to MCRRC, click on Weekly Workouts and then Monday Night Run.
