The 9th Annual Kentlands/Lakelands 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2002 at 8:30 AM. The proceeds from the race will benefit the Kentlands Community Foundation and the Dolores C. Swoyer Scholarship Fund.

There are a few days left to register to be part of this exciting event for the entire family. Late registration and packet pick-up will be held at Galyans, Washington Center, 2 Grand Corner Ave., in Gaithersburg (301-947-0200), from 5:00 to 8:00PM on Thursday and Friday.

Race day registration and packet pickup will start at 7:00 AM at Star Diner in Market Square. The Kids Run will start at 8:00 Am and the 5K Run & Walk will start at 8:30 AM.

An added attraction on Thursday (6:00-8:00 PM), August 29th, and Friday (5:00 - 8:00 PM), August 30th, at Glory Days Grill on Mateny Road in Germantown (301-528-2662), meet Bill Rodgers, four-time winner of the Boston and New York Marathons, and the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler.

The race is hosted by The Kentlands Community Foundation in partnership with the City of Gaithersburg.

Cash awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers ($300-$200-$100). Merchandise awards will be given to the top age group winners. No duplication of awards.

Last year was a banner year as three event records were set. The open men record was set by two-time winner Troy Harry of Fairfax, Va., in 15:26. The two-time female winner, Naoko Ishibe of Silver Spring, Md., ran 17:14. Dan Lawson of Gaithersburg, Md., set the masters record with a time of 16:21. Linda Wack of Germantown, Md., set the female masters record in 1997 at 19:21.
