By Jane Callen
August 2002
Bethesda, MD
For the Washington Running Report

Bethesda residents Jane Callen and Nick Seneca have earned the title of "Ironman" after successfully finishing the Ironman USA Lake Placid Triathlon July 28th, 2002. The Ironman USA race distance includes a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride through the Adirondack Mountains, and a full (26.2-mile) marathon. This was Callen's fifteenth triathlon and first Ironman. Seneca is a two-time Ironman and has been an age-group winner in numerous shorter-distance triathlons.

Chevy Chase has also added an Ironman to its ranks, following the successful debut of resident Den Cesone at the Lake Placid Ironman on July 28. This was Cesone's third triathlon.
