A Track & Field Summer Sizzler
Come and see and feel the excitement of the season finale at the 30th Annual Potomac Valley Games hosted by the Potomac Valley Track Club (PVTC). The Games will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2002 and Sunday, September 1, 2002 at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Va. If you are good, come out and share your talent with others. We all train to prove something to ourselves and others. This is the last outdoor event for the season.

The open track and field meet is for athletes of all ages and abilities. This will be a good place to start and to get valuable training tips. The youth events will be held on Saturday starting at 9:30 AM and the field events begin at 11:00 AM, and will include the 100 Meter Dash up to the 1500 meter Racewalk and 4x100 Relay. The running and the field event will begin at 7:30 AM on Sunday.

The following events are being contested, 2002 PVA Masters T&F Championships, 2002 PVA Open T&F Championships, 2002 PVA 15K Racewalk Championship, Mark Richard's Pentathlon and Special Weight Pentathlon and the Southeastern USATF Masters T&F Regional Championships.

The events for the Mark Richards Pentathlon for the men include the long jump, javelin, 200 meter dash, discus and the 1500 meters. The women's events include the 100 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump, and 800 meter run.

The meet will host an international field with athletes from India and Bulgaria and around the nation. The runners age range from 10 years of age to 85. Saturday, August 31st will be the last day to avoid a late fee of $10.00 per person for Sunday events. On Saturday evening at 6:00 pm there will be a track 5,000 meter and 10,000 meter runs.

A complete list of events is located at the PVTC website. Future Club events are listed on the site as well. There is additional information on the race hotline number at (703) 671-2520. The two-day event will require a large volunteer base and your support is being requested, so bring your friends and club members.

On October 12, 2002 the Club will celebrate its 30th Anniversary with a banquet at the Green Spring Village in Springfield, Va. Details and a registration form can be found at the website. The banquet is open to all.

The PVTC is a club for senior, master, open, and youth track and field athletes, long distance runners, and racewalkers.
