which annually draws approximately 30,000 people to
the Georgia Avenue corridor. In past years, the focus
has been on food, music, and community togetherness.
This year, under the careful planning of
Support-A-Child, Georgia Avenue Day will also focus on
important community issues such as health, fitness, and
positive music. Many of the illnesses that affect DC
residents, including obesity, diabetes, and
hypertension, can be prevented or managed by regular
exercise and proper diet. The "Run With the Mayor" is
intended to bring a greater awareness to the citizens
of the Northwest, DC area about the benefits of health
and fitness. Proceeds from the 5K will go to
Support-A-Child's educational program, Positive Music
Works, which is dedicated to assisting talented young
adults by helping them build their ability as
musicians. Once they have received professional
training, they are able to use the programs to express
themselves creatively and without profanity or
negativity. Your support will make a successful Georgia Avenue
Day. Please register today and pass this information
on to your friends, family, and members of your running
club. Remember, if you are unable to run yourself,
your $5 contribution will allow a young person from
the DC area to participate in the run.
Support-A-Child, International is a 501(c)3
organization and contributions are tax-deductible.
