PACE Race 5K
Press Release From Capital Running Company August 13, 2003 Washington, DC For the Washington Running Report
What Would You Do Without Your Dad, Brother, or Best Friend?
This year alone, almost 200,000 men will be diagnosed with
prostate cancer and more than 30,000 will die from it. Yet
prostate cancer is nearly one hundred percent survivable if
detected early. But there are often no early warning signs or
symptoms. The only way to detect the disease in its early stages
is through a simple blood test (PSA) and a digital rectal exam
(DRE). Men are often reluctant to be screened for the disease.
But, early detection saves lives.
Join the national effort to eliminate the threat of prostate
cancer to American men. Run or walk in the PACE Race 5K in
Washington, DC on Sunday, September 7, 2003, at 9:00 am,
promoting prostate awareness and cancer education.
Like all diseases, a healthy diet and regular exercise also help
prevent prostate cancer, so join us in our Race for
Prostate Awareness and Cancer
Education.
Prostate Cancer Awareness Week, a program of the Prostate Cancer
Education Council, coordinates free and low-cost screenings
across the nation at hospitals, clinics, private physicians, and
health care centers from September 14 to 20. We strongly
encourage all men over the age of 45 to be screened as well as
men at high risk (African-Americans and men with a family
history of prostate cancer). High risk men should be screened
beginning when they are 40.
