17 Hour Deadline Met by Carri Bennet, CEO
Bennet & Bennet PLLC, the leading legal
advocate for rural telecommunications carriers in America,
today announced
that Carri Bennet, CEO of Bennet & Bennet, received a
qualifying bid to
compete in the esteemed 2004 Ironman Triathlon Championship in
Hawaii. This
prestigious invitation followed her successful finish at the
Ironman CEO
Challenge in Lake Placid, NY.The CEO Challenge is held in conjunction with Ironman Lake
Placid, which is
one of the qualifying events for Ironman Hawaii. The event was
exclusively
open to CEOs who generate $5 million or more in annual
revenue. Bennet was
among 20 corporate leaders to compete for the title of "Fittest
CEO in
America," within the respective age and gender categories. Ted
Kennedy,
President of Ironman Motivations said, "One of the highlights
for me from
this year's CEO Ironman Challenge was seeing Carri in the last
miles of the
marathon, knowing she was going to win her division, finish
well under the
17-hour time limit and earn a slot to Kona for the Ironman World
Championship. Like most of the CEOs in the competition, she
seems like the
type of person that sets a goal for herself and does whatever
it takes to
achieve it. I knew that the Kona slot was a huge goal for her,
and it was a
great moment for me to be there and share in her joy as she
achieved this
goal. I look forward to bringing her across the finish line in
Hawaii in
October." The Ironman Triathlon Championship will be October 16, 2004, in
Kona,
Hawaii. Upwards of 50,000 competitors attempt to succeed in
becoming
eligible for this event at Ironman qualifying races worldwide.
Up to 2,000
competitors, ages 18 to 80, from over 50 countries, compete in
the event.
The triathlon is a full Ironman length, consisting of a 2.4-
mile ocean swim,
a 112-mile bike race and a 26.2-mile run. Competitors have 17
hours to
finish the event. When she is not training, Carri and her husband lead a team of
nine lawyers,
ten engineers and two consultants who represent more than 200
clients at
their Washington, D.C. communications law firm. Carri is a
nationally
recognized expert in rural wireless communications and works
regularly with
rural telephone companies and cooperatives. Carri's plan is to
continue to
train for 20 to 25 hours a week while leading Bennet & Bennet
to new
opportunities and challenges. The chance to race in Hawaii's Ironman fulfills a long-time
dream of
Carri's. "When you work really hard for something, it's just
natural to want
to go all the way," she said about the opportunity. "I'm
looking forward to
continuing my training, improving my time and conquering this
next challenge
in Kona."
