The Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter (LAWS) regrets to
announce that the 11th Annual Run for the Shelter Half Marathon
and 5K Run, originally planned for Sunday, September 25, 2005,
has been postponed. The new date is Sunday, March 19th, 2006 in
Leesburg, VA at 8:00 am. The scenic, rolling course starts and finishes at the Ida Lee
Center in Leesburg; there is a field limit of 1,000
participants. An estimated two thousand spectators line the
13.1-mile route each year and the LAWS Half-Marathon is
Leesburg's longest road race, making it one of Loudoun
County's most prestigious running events. The timing of the
2006 race, one month prior to the Boston Marathon on April 17,
makes it an excellent training opportunity for runners who wish
to gauge their preparation for Boston and other spring
marathons. In-person registration will be available on Saturday, March 18,
at the Potomac River Running Company, 20630 Ashburn Rd,
Ashburn, VA from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Proceeds from the LAWS Half-Marathon and 5K directly benefit
LAWS (Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter), which celebrated its
20th anniversary in 2004. Additional sponsorship and volunteers
are welcome. LAWS provides emergency shelter, crisis
intervention, legal services, support and information for women
and children who are victims of domestic violence, sexual
assault, and/or child abuse. For registration, sponsorship or volunteer information, please
