By Gene Brtalik August 10, 2006 Baltimore, MD For the Washington Running Report
With a little more then two months to go before the
Under Armour Baltimore Running Festival, the CareFirst BlueCross
BlueShield Half Marathon is on pace to sell out for the third-straight year
with a
little fewer than 1,000 spots remaining. After back-to-back sell
outs,
race officials increased the field from 3,500 to 4,000 this
year.
Compared to last year, registration for the half marathon is up
nearly
33 percent. Overall registration numbers are up 17.4 percent with the Legg
Mason
Funds Team Relay making the biggest gain as 436 people have
signed up
compared to the 296 from a year ago equating to a 47.3 percent
jump.
Last year, a record 11,000 people took part in the festival. The sixth annual Under Armour Baltimore Running Festival will
take
place Saturday, October 14th beginning at 8:00 a.m. The day
includes
the aforementioned half-marathon and four-person relay as well
as the
Under Armour Baltimore Marathon, United Way 5K, and Kids' Fun
Run. Registration fees for all races will go up September 1. Among
the
items included with one's registration fee is an Under Armour
performance apparel shirt, a medal, and a finisher's
certificate.
