Ocean City, NJ
For the Washington Running Report

The Philadelphia/Delaware Valley Chapter of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) hosted its Guts & Glory 5K Run/Walk on August 12 in Ocean City, NJ raising approximately $130,000. There were 900 participants.

Proceeds from the race benefit research, education, and support programs for people coping with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, which are chronic digestive disorders of the small and large intestines collectively known as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It is estimated that IBD affects approximately 1.4 million Americans.

The chairperson for this year's event was Bob Edmunds of Linwood, NJ whose computer systems and support company, Edmunds & Associates, sponsored the event. Lisa Rumer of Somers Point, NJ served as race director and placed first in her age category, women 40 to 49.

Michael Didio, of Churchville, PA won the race, and Joanne Klempner, also of Churchville, PA was the first place woman. Team Adler of Teaneck, NJ raised the most funds at almost $15,000 and Team Vanaria of Moorestown, NJ was the second leading team at almost $7,000.

Jamie Ginn, the Miss Delaware contestant for the upcoming Miss America pageant in January, also appeared at the event. Ginn's platform for the pageant is advocacy for Crohn's and colitis research.

CCFA, a voluntary, non-profit national organization, seeks to cure and prevent Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis through research, and to improve the quality of life for children and adults affected by these digestive diseases through education and support.
