"Green and Giving" is a new donation program that will touch lives locally, nationally, and around the globe.

Potomac River Running is proud to announce the kick-off of a new donation program called "Green and Giving." Throughout the year, Potomac River Running will adopt new donation programs that are focused on the well-being of those less fortunate, as well as those that promote a "green" environment. Potomac River Running will use its "Green and Giving" efforts as an opportunity to collectively work to make a difference locally, nationally, and around the globe.

Contributions have begun for two international donation programs: Shoe4Africa and Take Your Shirts Off to WIN.

Shoe4Africa: Do you have an extra or old pair of shoes lying around? Do you want to support a worthy cause and do something to better the lives of those who need your help the most? If so, support the Shoe4Africa Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to supporting programs, individuals, and events that create opportunity, enhance self-esteem, and increase health awareness in East Africa. Shoes, an ordinary accessory for us, are rare for those living in the underprivileged villages of East Africa. As a result, the spread of disease through the foot is rampant. This problem could be drastically reduced if people simply had shoes to put on their feet. Your donated shoes can make a huge impact on the health and wellness of thousands, as well as increase longevity and improve quality of life. Donate your old (in good condition) running shoes at the donation bins at any =PR= location. This collection process will continue indefinitely!

TAKE YOUR SHIRTS OFF TO WIN: WIN Detergent (manufacturer of a great product for washing your technical fabrics) is an official Olympic Sponsor and launched "Take Your Shirts Off to WIN" when the Olympics began. As part of this promotion, =PR= invites you to donate your gently-used athletic apparel. Drop off the items at any =PR= store and they will be collected, washed in WIN detergent, and sent to "Giving is Winning," a joint charity initiative between the International Olympic Committee and the United Nations. "Giving is Winning" promotes sports activities and distributes sports and casual clothing to the youth in refugee camps throughout the world. WIN is promoting this effort only through August (in conjunction with the Olympics), so please bring in your apparel soon!
