Cold Weather Doesn't Stop Turkey Chase 10Kers

Chris Raabe and Erin Sicher Run Tough to Win B-CC YMCA Turkey Chase

Photo above: Chris Raabe, 24 of Washington, D.C., won the BCC Turkey Chase 10K in 31:54 by more than 30 seconds over Russell Crandall, the winner in 2001. Brian Flynn and Dan Murphy once again garnered top ten finishes.

Photo below: Erin Sicher, a senior at Georgetown University and graduate of Good Counsel, won the women's race in 37:46. In 2001, she won with a time of 36:50; four women broke 40:00 this year, Sicher was the only woman to achieve a sub-40:00 in 2001.
The Georgetown Women's Cross Country team took fourth place on Monday, November 25 and Sicher was the top scorer for her team, running 20:36 for the 6K. She made All-American status.

1. A stream of runners passes by the halfway point, conveniently located near a coffee shop. Sean Murphy, 39 of Chevy Chase, is in the midst of the merrymakers; he finished in 53:55.

2. With a fast pace and on her own, 27-year-old Katie Filipczyk of Chevy Chase finished in 39:17 and took 4th place among women.

3. Teenagers Ryan Janes (#2914) of Gaithersburg and Vishal Patel (#2285) of Germantown both broke 42 minutes on the 10K course. Great job!

1. 19-year-old Stephen Bloom of Rockville placed third with a time of 33:56.

2. Kim Weinberg (#672, 36 of McLean) and Daniel Schmidt (#552, 19 of Greenville, S.C.) stayed warm by running fast. Weinberg finished in 45:06 and Schmidt ran 46:26.

3. San Francisco resident and third place female finisher Maggie Visser after her 38:46 performance.
Channel 4 News personality I.J. Hudson braved the cold conditions to emcee the post-race festivities.

1. Stay warm and run in a pack! Christy Slavin (#2917, age 40 of Wheaton) finished in 45:19 while Eric Turkewitz (#1624, age 42 of New Rochelle, N.Y.) surged over the second half to finish in 43:52.

2. Shades and a smile on Todd Levine's face brought the 28-year- old Silver Spring man to the finish line in 46:01. Meanwhile, Carol Weise, 39 of Williamsburg, ran 46:11 before dinner.

3. Incredible Daryl Baldwin, 12 of Bethesda, ran the entire course in 52:59. He is seen here on the shoulder of Kevin Nealer, 48 of Bethesda; Nealer finished in 52:41.
