"Conquering Negative Thinking" Seminar Offered by Washington RunHers
By Dawn Curtis, Club President
December 19, 2002
Alexandria, VA
For the Washington Running Report

The seminar will feature Jennifer Lager, Psy.D. a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. We will explore negative thinking styles and how negative thinking adversely affects sport performance. Participants will learn to identify their own specific styles of negative thinking.

We will also discuss the negative thoughts of the group participants and work on developing an understanding of why these negative thoughts seem to occur when during training or competition. Participants will leave the workshop with concrete ideas for new, more positive, thoughts that can replace the old negative thoughts and how to implement what they have learned in their everyday workouts.

The seminar will be held at 7:00 pm on Monday, January 6, 2003 at the Charles Beatley Library in Alexandria, VA.

Dr. Jennifer Lager received her Master and Doctorate Degrees from Rutgers University. Dr. Lager sees individuals, couples, and families in therapy. Her areas of interest and specialty include sport psychology, interfaith marital issues, treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, and grief/loss issues. In addition, she is an Adjunct Professor at Argosy University in Arlington, Virginia. Dr. Lager is sought out for speaking and workshops on such topics as anger management, improving sport performance, and a variety of parenting topics.

"Don't listen to negative influences. Believe in yourself, and show others what you can do. Only 'you' can find your potential." --Marla Runyan, a visually-impaired runner who made the 2000 Olympic Team at 1500 meters, and won the 2002 National Championships at 5000 meters.

To RSVP for this free informative seminar, e-mail RunHers@winning.com. Light refreshments will be served. For more information on the seminar and about Washington RunHers, log onto the club's web site.
