The new race date for the 20th Anniversary of the Sallie Mae 10K
has been set for Sunday, May 11, 2003. The race will be held in
West Potomac Park in Washington, DC. The start time will be
8:00 a.m. The race has evolved into a competitive race which
attracts international runners along with the top runners in the
Washington area.The race benefits the District of Columbia College Access
Program (DC-CAP), a non-profit organization funded by Washington
area companies and foundations dedicated to encouraging and
enabling District public high school graduates to enter and
graduate from college.
At present all race details are being finalized which includes
the prize money and entry fees. In 2002, the purse was $18,000
which was awarded to the top open and masters runners; male and
females shared equally. There will be open and local categories.
In the Sallie Mae Fund Intercollegiate Team Challenge, the Johns
Hopkins University team has dominated. The team has been
collecting $1,000 for the school's general scholarship fund
which is donated by the Sallie Mae Fund. The Hopkins team has
been on top since 1998. Will the streak continue for 2003?
