Wirefly National Marathon, D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation, and Partners Kick-Off the Junior Monumental Milers Program (JuMMP)

Event Held at Kenilworth Parkside to Celebrate Youth Health and
Fitness
On Friday, December 7, 2007 the Wirefly National Marathon,
Greater Washington Sports Alliance, D.C. Parks and Recreation
and other supporting sponsors will Kick-Off the Junior
Monumental Milers Program (JuMMP) at Kenilworth Parkside in
Anacostia.The event, which promotes youth health and fitness in the
District, expects more than 300 area youth to take part in the
day's activities. Also expected to attend and provide opening
remarks will be Mayor Adrian Fenty, Chairman Vincent Gray,
Council members Harry Thomas Jr. and Yvette Alexander, D.C.
Department of Parks and Recreation Director Clark Ray, and
Greater Washington Sports Alliance President, Robert Sweeney. The event runs from 12:00 NOON to 1:30 PM, including youth
program participant T-shirt distribution, remarks, and an
official Kick-Off to the challenge with an opening lap on the
Kennilworth Parkside track.
About the JuMMP Program
The Greater Washington Sports Alliance and 2008 Wirefly
National Marathon are pleased to partner with the D.C.
Department of Parks and Recreation to introduce the Junior
Monumental Milers Program (JuMMP) Challenge. Participants will
complete the equivalent of a marathon, 26.2 miles, over the
course of 17 weeks in an effort to promote the daily habit of
running for fitness and good health. The Final Mile of the
challenge will take place at 6:45 am on March 29, 2008, the
morning of the 3rd annual Wirefly National Marathon at RFK
Stadium.
