The Inaugural Germantown 5 Miler Brings Racing Back to Germantown
The Germantown 5 Miler is an exciting new race for Germantown.
Not since 1998, when organizers of a 5K charity race cancelled
plans due to diminished participation, has Germantown hosted
such an event. This new race is being presented by Seneca
Creek
Community Church and Capital Running Company, benefiting
Germantown HELP, a non-profit charity helping to provide
Germantown residents with a variety of emergency assistance.
The race will feature ChampionChip timing; a sophisticated
timing system which uses a computer chip attached to the
runner's shoe, and will also feature a number of post-race
refreshments and entertainment from local supporters. This
race
is expected to be a first-rate community affair. Germantown is
rapidly becoming a great place to work and play, and the race
organizers hope that this race will bring out the community for
a fun, family-oriented event, and also to acquaint runners and
volunteers with the up-and-coming city.

About Seneca Creek Community Church Seneca Creek
Community Church began in 1988, when Pastor Bruce D. Johnson,
realized his vision during the spring break of his second year
of his Master of Divinity program. Upon graduating, in June of
1989, Bruce and his young family moved to Germantown to begin
the work of building his church. Not much longer than a month
later, his close friends, Mark and Diane Tindle, moved to
Germantown, and the two couples began operation of Seneca Creek
Community Church. The congregation has grown over the years,
and the church now boasts its being the 10th largest church in
Montgomery County, having a new Ministry Center (which houses a
250-seat auditorium, a 100-seat classroom, a 60-seat classroom,
18 offices, two conference rooms, a kid's room and a youth room)
and a staff team of thirteen people (11 full-time, 2 part-time).

About ChampionChip Timing The ChampionChip timing system
will be used to score the 5 Mile race. The system uses a
computer "Chip" which must be tied to runners' shoelaces, and
records the exact time a runner crosses the starting line as
well as the finish line, resulting in a net, or "Chip," time for
each runner. Overall awards will be based on "clock time," and
age group awards will be based on "Chip time." The cost of the
rental ChampionChip is included in your entry fee. You
must wear your ChampionChip on your shoe and cross the
mats at the start and finish to be scored. Collection buckets
will be provided at the finish for the return of the rental
chips. Learn more about the ChampionChip timing system.
