Wearin' O' the Green 5K Run
From the official press release
February 1, 2004
Warrenton, VA
For the Washington Running Report

Molly's Irish Pub in Historic Old Town Warrenton, Virginia, announces the Wearin' O' the Green 5K Run to be held at 9 am on Sunday, March 7, 2004. This annual event is a community gathering where folks come together to advocate physical activity, promote their historic district, and celebrate St. Patrick's Day!

The race will continue its traditional support of the Partnership for Warrenton Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and revitalization of Warrenton's historic district. This year, however, 50% of the race proceeds will be donated to the Marshall Peck Fund, which has been set up to assist the Peck family with Marshall's rising medical bills. Marshall is a Fauquier High School junior who remains in a coma in critical condition at Washington Hospital Center following a January car accident.

The race begins and ends at Molly's Irish Pub in Historic Old Town Warrenton, Virginia. Conveniently located only 35 minutes from Dulles International Airport and within an hour's drive of Washington D.C., Old Town Warrenton was recently named one of the Prettiest Painted Places in America! Step back into history and put your feet down on the same ground where figures like Chief Justice John Marshall and the legendary Grey Ghost, Colonel John S. Mosby, walked up and down the streets!

In an effort to better meet street closing time restraints and to address past participants' concerns regarding more accurate race times, Molly's has teamed up with the Capital Running Company which has been timing races with the ChampionChip since 1998. The ChampionChip provides the fastest, most accurate race results possible.

In addition to the 5K run, there will also be a walk beginning at 8:30 am and a kids' fun run. The $18 entry fee includes a race t-shirt, ChampionChip rental, and post-race snacks and beverages. Register online, by mail, or in person at Molly's Irish Pub, 36 Main Street, Warrenton, Virginia. Registration closes at 5pm on March 4. Preregistered runners may pick up their packets on Saturday, March 6, from 11 am to 3pm in front of Molly's.

All ages are encouraged to join the festivities and contribute to two very special causes. Volunteers will be available to help add a touch of green to your running attire. There's even a leprechaun to wish you luck! Serious runners, beginners or casual walkers, The Wearin' o' the Green is fun for the entire family!
