New Washington Running Report Ten Mile Triple Bonus
$2,000 Bonus Offered to Winner of All Three Events
By George Banker February 4, 2005 Washington, DC For the Washington Running Report
The mission of the Ten-Mile Triple is to recognize the
performance of the Washington metropolitan local runners. The
three races listed below last year awarded complimentary entries
into each other's races. The entries will continue for 2005. The
nontransferable entries are awarded to the first local male and
female in the open and masters categories. The local area is
defined as the states of Maryland, Virginia, and the District of
Columbia. The winner must have resided in the area for at least
one year prior to each race.
The added incentive for 2005 is the Washington Running
Report Ten-Mile Triple Bonus. The bonus is being offered by
Capital
Running Company, which has roots in the running community
back to 1984. The company provides race management services, and
the Washington Running Report, a bi-monthly regional
publication, provides information on running and racing in the
Washington metropolitan area, a race calendar and entry forms,
as well as information on fitness, nutrition, and running news.
The Washington Running Report can be found on-line at
www.runwashington.com.The bonus will be $2,000 to any male or female who wins all
three events in the Ten-Mile Triple for the 2005 season. This
applies to both the open and masters categories. The category is
determined by a runner's age at the Credit Union Cherry Blossom
10 Mile Run. The series starts with:
33rd Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run, Sunday,
April 3, 2005, West Potomac Park, Washington, DC. Web site:
www.cherryblossom.org. The race has grown from a field of
141 finishers to a world-class event, which has featured
world-record-setting performances. The race is committed to
providing a first-class race organization and a flat, fast
course past Washington's monuments at the city's loveliest time
of year. The race has closed for 2005 but you can volunteer and
receive a guaranteed entry for 2006. And continues with:
30th Annapolis 10-Mile Run, Sunday, August 28, 2005
Navy-Marine Corps Stadium, Annapolis, MD. Web site:
www.anapolisstriders.org. Conducted by the Annapolis
Striders running club, the race setting is in historic
Annapolis, Maryland's capital, and only minutes from the U.S.
Naval Academy. In its first year, the race finished seven
runners. Typical August weather prevails: heat and humidity.
Many residents along the course bring out garden hoses to cool
off the runners. The race travels to Main Street towards the
harbor. There is a spectacular view of the Naval Academy from
atop the Severn River Bridge. One great perk is the runner's
premium given each year to the finishers. There may not be many
PRs, but it's an excellent race with good competition. 21st Army Ten-Miler, Sunday, October 2, 2005
Pentagon, Washington, DC. Web site:
www.armytenmiler.com. The "Tradition of Excellence" started
its first year with 1,379 runners and has grown to more than
20,000 runners. The race starts and finishes at the Pentagon.
The course travels across Memorial Bridge into Washington and
travels past several of the national monuments. The racecourse
is flat and fast and it is the largest 10-mile race in the
country and the second largest in the world. Soldiers come from
around the world to compete for the prestigious Commander's Cup.
In addition, armies from around the world compete for the
International Trophy.
