The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) and FAMILY Magazine, proud sponsor of the Healthy Kids Fun Run, presented the MCM Healthy School Award to Fairfax County's Lynbrook Elementary on February 20 in a special presentation at the school. This marks the sixth consecutive year the Springfield, VA school has received this honor. The Healthy School Award is presented to the school with the greatest number of students participating in the MCM Healthy Kids Fun Run, a one mile fun run conducted the day prior to the MCM. FAMILY Magazine made a $1,000 donation to the school's physical education department. The MCM and FAMILY Magazine will also recognize the school with the second most student participants. Eagle View Elementary of Fairfax, VA will receive a $500 donation from FAMILY Magazine to acknowledge their participation in a presentation February 28 at 10:00 a.m. at the school.

"Raising healthy, active kids is a priority for every parent," said Brenda Hyde, publisher of Washington FAMILY Magazine. "FAMILY Magazine is thrilled to be involved with the Marine Corps Marathon Healthy Kids Fun Run and to offer this financial incentive to encourage students to participate in the event."

The Healthy Kids Fun Run presented by The Washington Post, held October 28 at the DC Armory in Washington, DC, hosted 1,367 children between the ages 6 and 13. Kids representing more than 190 schools throughout the US participated in the event featuring mascots, educational activities, healthy snacks, and fun with the Marines. Winning school Lynbrook Elementary boasted 83 student participants and second place Eagle View was represented by 61 participants.

The MCM Healthy School Awards will be presented during a special assembly at the schools in February 2007 featuring the Marines and Miles, the MCM Mascot. Kids Run sponsors include Washington FAMILY Magazine, Navy Federal Credit Union, McDonald's, National Children's Museum, Lincoln Military Housing, and Sodexho.
