There Weren't Any Cows Today!
Starting the New Year on the right foot(ing), more than 650 10K runners and 4K walkers came to Leesburg to participate in the 7th annual Rotary Resolution 10K Adventure. If you were there, then you know "adventure" means "cross-country." With the best weather in race history, 472 finished the 10K, having met the challenge of Leesburg's most difficult course.

The three fastest men were all from Loudoun County. Winner Eric Lavigne of Ashburn raced to the finish in a time of 34:14. Second-place honors went to Brian Schmidt (photo left) for his 34:27; he was also the fastest Leesburg resident. Matt Maline, from Herndon, ran 35:32 for third place.

It is interesting to note that 52-year-old Chuck Moeser, who was seventh overall in 36:22, was age-graded first.

Cheryl McMurray from Fairfax won the women's race in 42:42. She bested K. Liisa Linask of Rockville by just over a minute. The fastest woman from Leesburg, Martha Cammack, was third in 45:20, nearly 90 seconds later. These three runners led the 144 women who ran today.

Almost 200 family members, friends, and neighbors walked through the grounds of Morven Park, starting their New Year the healthy way. There were many happy, smiling faces. That theme continued when everyone entered the gym at Ida Lee Park for results entertainment, and refreshments. This event is well known for having some of the best random awards of any race.
