Greenway Trail Nearly Marathon
From the press release
January 4, 2005
Rockville, MD
For the Washington Running Report

The Second Annual Seneca Creek Greenway Trail Marathon will be held on Saturday, March 5. The race is conducted by the Montgomery County Road Runners Club.

This point-to-point trail race will begin at Damascus Regional Park in Damascus, Maryland and will end at Riley's Lock on the Potomac River and C&O Canal Towpath. Runners will be car-poooled from the finish to the start on race day morning. The marathon and 50K begin at 8:00 am, so runners will need to arrive at Riley's Lock for the bus ride between 6 and 6:45 am. Particpants should expect minimal aide, should be comfortable on trails and with the marathon distance, and should be highly self-sufficient.

For the 2005 race runners can expect the following changes:

* 50K option for those who reach Clopper Lake by a predetermined cutoff time.
* Race course will start out of the Damascus Regional Park.
* New sponsors, including Trail Runner magazine, which has included the race in its Trophy Series.
* Increased sponsorship from REI.
* Increased field to 125 runners.
This "close to marathon and 50K" distance race will be timed but is not USATF-certified and cannot be used as a qualifying race.
