This family-friendly event, presented by Seneca Creek Community

Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, will take place on Saturday,

followed by the 5 mile ChampionChip timed race at 8:30 am.
And last but not least, a 2-mile run fun allowing strollers and
dogs will begin at 8:40 am.Title Sponsor: This year we are happy to have a new
title sponsor. Headquartered in Germantown, Mid-Atlantic
Federal Credit Union is a community-chartered credit union
offering great deals on financial services to anyone who lives,
works, worships, or goes to school in Montgomery County,
Maryland. The credit union, which has more than 21,000 members
and $200 million in assets, is committed to helping its
members achieve their financial goals. MAFCU is federally
insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund. For
more information on becoming a member, visit the credit union's
Web site or
call 301-944-1800. Beneficiaries. This year the race proceeds will go to
support two well-deserving local charities, namely the
Germantown Boys & Girls Club and the Shady Grove Adventist
Emergency Center. The mission of the Germantown Boys & Girls Club is to
help boys and girls of all backgrounds, with an emphasis on at-
risk youth, to build confidence, develop character, and acquire
the skills needed to become productive, civic-minded,
responsible adults. Today children come from families in which
both parents work. In fact, this situation seems to define
the "traditional" family these days. Elementary students today
lack the community support required to deal with academics,
extracurricular activities, and social challenges. The
Germantown Boys & Girls Club seeks to provide youth with a
positive and safe place in which their development is sought.
Shady Grove Adventist Emergency Center at Germantown,
the first freestanding emergency department in Montgomery
County, has treated thousands of patients since its opening in
July 2006. Thanks to streamlined procedures, patients with
medical emergencies can now have faster access to top of the
line care. The new design will now move patients quickly from
registration directly to one of the 21 patient rooms where a
nurse can begin collecting information and providing care. Each
room is set up with the state of the art technology needed for
the patient, including special monitoring and imaging
equipment. By the time tests are completed, the physician can
be assessing the patient. The Center is open 24/7 to treat
accidents, walk-ins, and those who arrive by ambulance.
Located next door, for our patients' convenience, Shady Grove
Radiology provides a full-service medical imaging facility.
Shady Grove Adventist Hospital is working hard to bring the
best patient care to the community. Participants in the race will have access to the festive post
race area, which will include a moon bounce for children and
homemade baked goods and bagels to be enjoyed by all. There is
a Germantown resident discount that can be applied when signing
up online. There will also be corporate/friends and running
club teams competing in the 5-Miler.
For more information and registration, we invite you to visit
the race Web site at www.germantown5miler.com.
