ZOOMA Women's Race Series Announces CARE as Exclusive National Charity

Washington, DC
For the Washington Running Report

ZOOMA Women's Race Series, a new national series of women's running events today announced that CARE, the global poverty- fighting organization, is their National Charity Partner for 2008. The partnership will create a link between ZOOMA runners and I Am Powerful, CARE's campaign to engage women in the U.S. in the lives of impoverished women around the world.

ZOOMA will encourage runners to form special "CARE" teams and provide the opportunity for them to empower their counterparts in developing countries by fundraising for CARE. As part of their participation in the race and related events, ZOOMA will donate at least $3 of every entry fee to CARE.

"We are thrilled to partner with ZOOMA in an event that promotes the well-being of women and girls," says Dr. Helene Gayle, president and CEO of CARE. "It is a fantastic way to get fit and to get involved with improving the lives of women around the world".

"I Am Powerful" resonates with women runners who are juggling work and family to accomplish a challenging health and fitness goal. Their participation in the race series will help CARE raise awareness of the plight of women in developing countries who make up 70 percent of the poorest people in the world today.

"We know that all women are powerful and that we have the responsibility to empower one another," said Brae Blackley, Executive Director of ZOOMA Women's Race Series. "ZOOMA is proud to support CARE in its mission to empower women around the world to make positive change in the communities where they live."

About CARE

CARE is a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty. Last year, CARE programs improved the lives of more than 66 million people in nearly 70 countries. Recognizing that women suffer disproportionately from poverty, CARE places a special focus on working with women to create permanent social change. Women are at the heart of CARE's community- based efforts to improve basic education, prevent the spread of HIV, increase access to clean water and sanitation, expand economic opportunity, and protect natural resources. CARE also delivers emergency aid to survivors of way and natural disasters, and helps people rebuild their lives.
