For the Washington Running Report

The Marine Corps Marathon will present a free runners health clinic, for athletes preparing to run the 28th Annual Marine Corps Marathon, on Saturday, August 9 at 7 pm at George Washington University Medical School's Ross Hall in Room 101. Featuring Dr. David Brody, a member of the Marine Corps Marathon medical staff for over 25 years, the clinic addresses runners of all ability levels and touches on topics such as marathon training, nutrition, effects of hot and cold weather and injuries. Additional clinics will be held on Saturday, September 6 at 7 pm, and Saturday, October 11 at 7 pm.

Dr. Brody has been with the Marine Corps Marathon since its first running in 1976 when he handed out water to runners. He ran the marathon the next two years before becoming the event's Medical Director in 1979.

Dr. Brody, founder of the Runners' Clinic at George Washington University in 1978 to treat injured runners, is a member of American Society of Sports Physicians, American College of Sports Medicine, American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons and Vice President of the International Medical Marathon Directors Association.

The 28th annual Marine Corps Marathon, held on Sunday October 26, 2003, has more than 18,000 registered participants. Immediately following the start of the Marathon on Sunday October 26, an anticipated 1,000 runners will run the MCM5K presented by Deer Park at the same Arlington, Virginia start line as the MCM.
