Check It Out Challenge: Hadassah's Annual 10K Race, 5K Run/Walk Joined by New Family Fun Walk
From the official press release
July 5, 2004
Baltimore, MD
For the Washington Running Report

The Check It Out Challenge, presented by Hadassah of Greater Baltimore, will be held on Sunday, August 1 at Baltimore Inner Harbor, Rash Field. The 10K Race, beginning at 8:00 am, will be part of the Charm City Run Distance Challenge, a series of road races leading up to the Baltimore Marathon. Runners, walkers, families, and teams will also have the opportunity to participate in the 5K Run/Walk, which begins at 7:30 am. The 1.5 Mile Fun Walk, starting at 8:15 am, will feature interactive activities and prizes for children as they stroll with their parents around the Harbor Promenade.

Proceeds from the Race help fund Hadassah's award-winning health programs offered throughout the Baltimore metropolitan area. Race sponsors include LifeBridge Health, Kaiser Permanente, Mercantile Investment Management & Trust Division, Davis S. Brown Enterprises, Legg Mason Funds, McCormick & Company, Inc., Safeway, Surgical Specialists, Comcast, WB 54, WYPR, and the Owings Mills Times.

Registration is available in person at Charm City Run in Timonium, MD, on the Web, or by calling (410) 484-9590. The registration fee of $25 entitles participants to receive a race T-shirt, post-race refreshments, and a chance to win a variety of prizes and giveaways. Prizes will be awarded for the fastest times (top 3 overall male and female, and top 3 male and female in 7 age categories), largest team, and most money raised by an individual and by a team.

For more than a decade, Hadassah of Greater Baltimore, a chapter of the largest volunteer women's organization in the United States, has sponsored community-wide, grassroots health education programs. As part of Hadassah's worldwide commitment to research, disease prevention, health promotion, and healing, these programs are dedicated to empower all people, without discrimination to race, religion, nationality, or age to be responsible for their own bodies. Our local health programs include: Check It Out - high school-based breast, testicular, and prostate cancer awareness programs; Straight from the Heart - focused on the different signs and symptoms of heart disease in women; Pikuah Nefesh - stressing the importance of organ donation; and our newest initiative, Beyond The Mirror - a series of programs and activities promoting positive body images, fitness and nutrition for teens and pre-teens. Through your race participation, you help ensure the continued availability of these vital education programs!
