Read about this year's grant recipients.
The nation's largest grassroots running organization, the Road
Runners Club of America (RRCA) recently announced its 2005
class of "Roads Scholars.""The Roads Scholar (R) program provides training stipends for
emerging national class distance runners," according to RRCA
Program Chair and Past President Carl Sniffen. "We have a
particularly promising class this year in Trent Briney, James
Carney, Lucinda Hull, Ann McGranahan, Mike Morgan, & Casey
Owens. When you consider the successes of past participants,
including Olympic berths and medals, that is saying something." Current RRCA President Bee Andrews acknowledged the generous
support that makes this program possible. "The 2005 donors
list represents some of our most successful, community-minded
organizations," said Andrews. "These are clubs and events that
recognize the importance of bringing along the next generation
of American distance talent. By making this commitment, they
have done more than just talk about it." Concluding on a positive note, President Bee Andrews
remarked, "With a
newly strengthened RRCA we are
hoping to involve an even wider range of clubs and running
organizations in 2006." Donations of any size to the 2006 program may be made payable
to "RRCA Roads Scholars Program" and sent:
