Ideal Summer Conditions for the 2007 Cure Autism Now 5K

More Than One Million Dollars Raised for Autism Research in Seven Years

Photo above: Christopher Raabe (on right, 28) of Washington, DC has run the Cure Autism Now 5K several times and placed second. This year he won the race in 15:33. Sean Guy (left, 19) of Dover, DE placed fifth (16:54), and Michael Wardian (cap, 33) of Arlington, VA settle for third (16:01).

A Strong Run
Vanessa Hunter (31) left of Arlington, VA established a clear lead during the first mile and won the women's division in a course record time of 17:21. Churchill High School coach Steve Bettis is on right. Vanessa has qualified (2:45:38) for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon. Her post-race comments: "It was a really tough course; I didn't expect to run so fast. The hills weren't as steep as expected; they were rolling."








The First Mile, Before the Hills Took a Toll
First photo: Laura Turner (right, 27) of Washington, DC pulled away for second place (18:08), and Lindsay Goulet (left, 29) of Arlington, VA finished third (18:19). Emily Richard (in light blue, 30) of Washington, DC was sixth (19:05). Bob Price (35) finished 11th in the men's division.

Second photo: Young Colin Savercool (10) of Silver Spring, MD bravely kept pace with the adults (23:20).

Third photo: Left to right, Rachel Chang (12), Caroline Ayanian (11), Grace Pereles (10), and Anne McConnell (35). Caroline and Grace finished together in 32:51.

Closing In On the Finish Line
First photo: Ryan Mammen (30) of Woodbridge, VA said he went out slower and closed the race better, with a second place finish (15:54). He has recently rededicated himself to running, doing two daily workouts when his work schedule allows it.

Second photo: Thomas Jagodits (47) of Poolesville, MD, Sarah Barbpoulis (42), and Kimberly Price (35) of Potomac, MD, finished quickly, before 21:30 on the clock.

Third photo: Sometimes a helping hand from mom can get you to the finish line. 7-year-old Linnea and Maria Bouroncle (42) of Washington, DC completed the 5K.

Staying in Great Shape
First photo: Peter Caggiano (10) of Bethesda, MD was another boy wonder, finishing in 22:32.

Second photo: Meili Sohl (Madison t-shirt, 14) of Potomac, MD went the distance in 26:16.

Third photo: Sometimes less clothing is more comfortable for males. Meanwhile, the faster women (Laura Turner and Lindsay Goulet) are finishing at sub-6:00/mile pace.
