Washington RunHers Announce Yoga for Runners Program
Press Release From the Washington RunHers Unlimited June 27, 2003 Washington, DC For the Washington Running Report
Runners often experience physical imbalances and injuries
stemming from tight, shortened muscles and stressed joints.
DCYOGA instructors Meg and Tara, both avid runners, would like
to share with you how yoga is the ideal complement to running
and the effects of training. Come join us at this special
meeting to:
* Discover how yoga increases flexibility, awareness, and breath
capacity.
* Experience a variety of poses targeting key muscle groups used
in running.
* Learn about techniques to enhance core strength & increase
energy efficiency.
Tara Starkweather has been running for 25 years, and has
recently competed in two half-marathons. She was first attracted
to yoga as a way to counteract the effects of running and has
been practicing yoga for 15 years. Tara received her teaching
certificate from the Sivananda Yoga center in the Bahamas.
Margaret Schlott received her yoga instructor
certification through the Bodhisattva School of Yoga. She's been
running for the past ten years, both recreationally and
competitively. Margaret has integrated yoga into all aspects of
her life and enjoys sharing the benefits of yoga with others.
DCYOGA aims to burn not only your external heat, but also
internal heat to help you transfer the immediate relaxation that
you experience after the class into your daily life. Our
objective is to provide you a studio environment where you can
extend your physical, mental, and spiritual boundaries. Visit us

The Washington RunHers, a RRCA club, was formed in
October 1976 by twelve women who decided to establish a club to
provide mutual encouragement for running and promote local
women's running. The club flourished, and today members
represent a diverse cross-section of running interests,
abilities and goals. RunHers welcomes and supports women
runners of all ages and abilities. The club aims to provide
camaraderie, education, training programs, volunteer
opportunities and, most importantly, fun to women runners across
our area. For more information, please visit
