Saturday, September 17, 2005 at 8:00 AM.
Four Seasons Hotel hosts our annual Terry Fox 5K Fun Run to
benefit cancer research at Washington Cancer Institute. This
year's run will be held Saturday, September 17 at 8:00 am in
Georgetown. The course begins and ends at the Four Seasons
Hotel, and journeys along the scenic and historic C&O Canal. The event will include an abundant Farmer's Market featuring
fresh homemade goodies, a Silent Auction offering many elaborate
getaways and gifts, and several chances to win incredible
prizes. Terry Fox was 18 years old when he lost his leg to cancer.
Moved by the suffering of other cancer patients, he set out to
run across Canada with hopes of raising money and awareness for
cancer research. During this "Marathon of Hope," Terry ran 3,339
miles in 143 days until he was forced to stop running by a
return of the cancer. He died one month short of his 23rd
birthday. Participants around the world keep Terry's dream of curing
cancer alive with the Terry Fox Run held yearly in 52 countries.
To date, over $350 million has been raised and devoted
exclusively to cancer research around the world. In Washington,
all proceeds will go the Washington Cancer Institute, which is
part of the Washington Hospital Center. The Terry Fox 5K Fun Run is open to runners and walkers of all
ages. Prizes and a sumptuous hot breakfast will be available at
a post-run reception.
