Registration for 2006 Army Ten-Miler Nears Cap
By Roxana Hoveyda June 7, 2006 Washington, DC For the Washington Running Report
The Army Ten-Miler is registering hundreds of runners a day as
its numbers top 19,500. Each year, the race continues to set
registration records. In 2005 the race filled on July 10. This
year race registration is running 20-30 days ahead of last year
and is expected to reach its expanded 24,000 race capacity in
June.
"We are listening to our runner's and this year's 22nd edition
of the Army's annual 10-mile race promises to continue its
tradition of excellence" commented Jim Vandak, Race Director.
2006 race enhancements include a training program by Jeff
Galloway, improved seeding at the Start Line, a Wave Start to
alleviate congestion and improve performance for all runners,
hosting of the USCAA 10-Mile Championship and a new, interactive
online course map will be featured in July. Race officials have
also resurrected the perennial favorite T-Shirt Design Contest.
This year, all 2006 registrants will vote for the official
design of this year's race shirt.
The Army Ten-Miler is not just a race - it's a weekend of
activities. Participants can look forward to a 2-day race expo,
clinics, the Health Net Federal Services Youth Runs, the HOOAH
Tent Zone, the GEICO pasta dinner, youth activities,
entertainment, displays and much more! There is something for
everyone and all proceeds go to soldier and soldier family Moral
Recreation and Welfare (MWR) programs.
