The Inaugural Potomac River Running
Twilight Festival 4 Miler

By George Banker
June 9, 2006
Ashburn, VA
For the Washington Running Report

Don't miss the opportunity to be counted as a participant in the inaugural Potomac River Running Twilight Festival 4-Miler, Sunday, June 25, 2006, 7:45 p.m., in Ashburn, Va. The race will start at the old Dominion Brewing Company, 44633 Guilford Drive, Ashburn, VA 20147.

Kick off your summer running season after the summer solstice and make this weekend the "longest" of the year. You have to get excited thinking about an evening, fast, 4-mile race and to run with your family and friends. The race will conclude the weekend- long Old Dominion Beer Festival at the Old Dominion Brewing Company and Brewpub in Ashburn, VA. Celebrate post-race at the finish line festival.

Some of the race net proceeds will be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to support the training and travel costs for cancer survivors participating in that charity's Team in Training programs. Other funds will be used to create an annual scholarship for a deserving area High School runner who contributes to his/her team beyond race results in areas of sportsmanship, work ethic, etc.

"We support the running community as a retailer but believe we can also give back by developing additional racing opportunities in the suburbs, and creating a festive atmosphere around a fun evening race seemed like a great way to start--there are few evening races from which to choose! The two race beneficiaries, Team in Training and the local area high school runners (particularly the unheralded ones who work really hard but aren't the leaders of the pack), are close to our hearts and we wanted to find a way to raise some funds and awareness for these groups as well," stated Cathy Pugsley of Potomac River Running store.

Directions:
From the Dulles Toll Road, take Exit 9B - Route 28 north. After the third stop light, exit to the right on Waxpool Road (Rt. 625 west). Turn right on Loudoun County Parkway. At the third light, turn left at Beaumeade Circle, and then a second left at Guilford Drive. The Brewery is on the left.

Awards and Prizes
CASH PRIZES will be awarded in the amount of $150 - $100 - $50 for Overall Top 3 places, and $75 for the Top Masters.

Overall and Master's winners and age group winners (under 19, 20- 24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65- 69, 70 and over) will receive merchandise awards and prizes.

The ChampionChip will be used for timing. Overall awards will be based on clock time; age group awards will be based on chip time. There will also be great random prizes from local merchants and other race sponsors. All participants will receive an official commemorative Dri-Release technical wicking t-shirt included with race registration.

High School Team - Registration Challenge
Area High School Track and Cross Country Teams are invited to compete in the High School Team Challenge. We challenge you to recruit as many people to participate in the race as possible - run yourself, motivate your family members, friends, classmates, neighbors, etc. The entry form includes a space for registrants to indicate their support of your school. The team with the greatest number of registered participants will receive equipment for the fall season. Teams with at least ten participants registered are also eligible to nominate an athlete in the 2006-2007 scholarship program to which some of the race net proceeds will go.

Team/Corporate Challenge
Team awards will be given to the top teams. Each team must consist of a minimum of four members, and at least one member must be female. The top four chip times will be combined to determine the total team time. Team members must register under the same group name so we can accurately track your team's time. Students must state their school name. Other teams should list their company or organization (i.e., "Ashburn Area Running Club:, or "Old Dominion Brewing Company").

Race Results
Race management and results will be provided by Capital Running Company. Official race results will be posted at www.potomacriverrunning.com and at www.runwashington.com. For your convenience, Capital Running Company will be using ChampionChip timing technology for all participants in the 4- Miler. Chip timing will not be used for the Fun Run. ChampionChip owners may subtract $1 from their entry fee and must enter their chip number in the appropriate section of the entry form.

The Potomac Rive Running Twilight Festival 4-Miler is presented by the Old Dominion Beer Festival with gold-level supporting sponsors Washington Consulting, and Team Z. Also, Acumen Solutions, Ashburn Area Running Club, Wyatt Consulting, Mike Taylor Massage Therapy, Steve Servidio-CPA, SRA International, Broadlands Regional Medical Center, Capital Rehab - Ashburn, Capital Running Company, and Metrosports Magazine are thanked for their support.
